Thank you to all who came yesterday Thursday 20 October, to see the final show of Upper Elementary and High School in Kriterion Art Cinema.
“Material World” was created entirely by the students from Upper Elementary and High School of Bloom during an intensive one-month work period in September 2016.
From characterization, to script writing, filming (with the school’s IPads), design, choreography and final product, it is truly their creation. Never before have our students been able to show to this extent the depth of their inspiration and the topics they wanted to discuss.
We are moved and humbled by their incisive view on the adult world and it is precisely for this that Bloom has given such a preeminent role to Performing Arts in its curriculum.
Through this short period of intensive work, our students have been able to develop some of the attitudes and skills they will need to change the world into what they envision: a healthy self-image, self-confidence, dedication and grit, concentration, creative problem-solving, communication skills, creative writing skills, to name but a few.
But above all, it is the intrinsic holistic nature of performing arts which by drawing on all senses, on creativity, on body expression, on movement, on voice, on emotions, allows children to learn about their own person and discover new abilities and talents, a process that continues well beyond the month allocated into all areas of their lives. This is “educating for wholeness”!
We hope you enjoyed the show and imagine with us the possibilities! For those of you who could not attend we were lucky enough to have a professional cameraman who is filming a documentary about our school, volunteer to film the show. After the editing is done, we will be able to share this. Photos will be published on the school’s Facebook page.
